Morris-Turnberry History Gazette

Morris-Turnberry's Living History Book

About

One of the first surveys done of Turnberry Township

Morris-Turnberry Living History Gazette is an ever-expanding history of the past of Morris Township and Turnberry Townships in Ontario, Canada. This area was settled initially by a mix of Scottish, Irish and English immigrants in the 1860s. As one of the last areas in southwestern Ontario to be opened for settlement, it quickly filled with those looking to purchase their own piece of land. These two largely agricultural townships were rural in nature with a few village sites.

Within this blog find articles from newspapers printed over a hundred years ago on buildings and people long gone. Research bits and pieces accumulated from years working as a researcher, curator and consultant are combined here with the research findings of other local historians to provide an ever-expanding encylopedia of this little piece of Ontario. Find the early property owners of most land parcels as gleaned from the Township Papers of the Archives of Ontario. Read about the Morris-Turnberry war veterans of 19th and 20th century wars. Here we will document the histories of churches, schools, businesses, crimes, accidents, acts of God, literature & art, buildings, families, diaries, letters and artifacts.
